Shocking! India in 21st Century

Today almost every News Channel is running news about what happened in Meerut, Gandhi Jayanti Park. Totally disgusting incident!

Yesterday Meerut Police slapped, beaten almost every person in Gandhi Jayanti Park in Meerut. That includes married, un-married couples, families and even uncle and aunties above 50 years of age. Girls was slapped and asked about male friends and males are beaten with ladhis. Police chased couples and intentionally brought them in front of camera.

Just few mins back I saw an interview of one of the girl who was captured on camera yesterday, and she said her family is traumatized and her father even thought about suicide because of the community backlash.

I don’t understand, is hanging around in a public park is a crime? On what basis Indian police took matter in their own hands, slapped and used ladhis on public? Without any warrant they arrested 8 couples and without any notice they released them.

I totally agree with Savy on how media covered this issue. I think its time people should wake up!

Also, I kinda disappointed with Indian blogging community. I was expecting some criticism from bloggers, It’s strange the people have time to talk about what’s happening in US or Europe but when it comes to issues in their own country they prefer to keep quite.
