Say Bye Bye to IE CSS Hacks!

October 25th, 2005

Finally last week Internet Explorer development team requested to remove all IE hacks like “html >”, “* html” etc. from your website because Internet Explorer 7 will not going to support it.

Internet Explorer 7 new improved engine will clean up most of the parser bugs as well as will add many new CSS functionality. Few of the new CSS additions are:

  • Improved (though not yet perfect) fallback
  • CSS 2.1 Selector support (child, adjacent, attribute, first-child etc.)
  • CSS 2.1 Fixed positioning
  • Alpha channel in PNG images
  • Fix :hover on all elements
  • Background-attachment: fixed on all elements not just body

Note: Firefox already support all these, and soon to launch Firefox 1.5 will have partial support for CSS 3 as well. Awesome!

IE development team also announced that, Internet Explorer 7 will not support Web Standards Acid Test 2. Yukh!
