Google and Open Source

October 27th, 2005

In the beginning, I really thought Google adore open source, but is it really? Or taking a shed under open source is just a business technique to get some share out of proprietary Microsoft?

Let’s take an example of Google Print, if Google really want to make all those books available to world, why doesn’t it take part in Yahoo, Internet Archive and MSN joint effort.

Where Google is scanning copyright material first and than asking publishers and authors to contact Google if they want their content to be removed, and also Google is restricting public access to digitized content and will maintain control over search; Open Content Alliance is taking authors and publisher’s permission first before scanning their content and also, all digitized content will be available to any web search engine.

Though I always like Google ideas but it’s not always right to think Google is good and Microsoft is evil.
