Cricket History! Australia vs. South Africa

March 12th, 2006

434 runs batting first and you still lost the game. Wow! Excellent batting by Australia 434 for 4, but just ‘amazing’ batting by South Africa 438 which includes awesome knock of Herschelle Gibbs! I just can’t believe it.

Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones said after Australian inning, “This knock of 434 is greatest in the ODIs and might not be conquered ever. The way Australia is murdering their opponents, makes them invincible”

Jones what do you want to say now??

Ricky Ponting

Earlier today Australia won the toss and chose to bat, created a record 434 (The previous record was the 398 by Sri Lanka against Kenya) for four in their 50 overs. Ponting led the way with a magnificent 164, which made him the first Australian to reach 9,000 runs in one-day internationals.

But Herschelle Gibbs 175 off 111 balls just turned the Australian dream into nightmare.

Herschelle Gibbs

Chasing an almost impossible 435 for victory, South Africa replied with 438 for 9. They had not only won the Match… Series… but also broke the highest total record of Australia.

Ponting also top scored with 164 off 105 balls, while Mike Hussey scored 80. Simon Katich scored 79 while Adam Gilchrist made 55.

Btw both Gibbs and Ponting have been jointly awarded the Man of the Match.

During ending ceremony, Boucher said “It’s one of my best moments in cricket so far,”… it definitely is!

My brother in-law bought tickets to the match about a month ago, so I was extremely lucky to watch the match at the stadium. All I can say it was an experience that I will never forget. Both teams were fantastic, and the crowd atmosphere was incredible. I don’t think we will see this kind of match again in a long time.
